Beach-cast Marine Algae Fishery
The federal environment department has approved the continuation and expansion of the collection of algae from beaches along the south-east coastline. We are concerned that the impact of this on shorebirds, including threatened and migratory species, has not been adequately assessed and that insufficient monitoring is taking place to detect any changes in future.

A management plan for the Nullarbor Parks was being developed by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR), in conjunction with the Nullarbor Parks Advisory Committee. Similarly, a management plan was being developed for the Yellabinna and Warna Manda Parks in conjunction with the Yumbarra Conservation Park Co-management Board. Both plans were developed using the Far West Coast Healthy Country Plan as a basis.
We provided comment on the first regional roadside vegetation management plan that has been developed in SA, on the Eyre Peninsula. Once finalised, the plan will provide NVC approval for certain roadside clearance activities. We commented that the clearance envelope being sought is greater than dimensions specified in the NV Regulations (2017) and emphasized the importance of using all available information on the conservation significance of roadside vegetation in the proposed risk management program.
